Lay's Unveils New Potato Chip Flavor Inspired by Ultimate Comfort Food

A smoky, savory chip inspired by a late father’s favorite sandwich has just won Lay’s biggest flavor contest.

After months of taste-testing and voting, Bacon Grilled Cheese has been named the winner of Lay’s annual Do Us A Flavor competition . It beat Valentina & Lime and Wavy Korean-Style Fried Chicken for the top spot.

The winning flavor was dreamed up by Oklahoma’s Paula George, who created the chip to honor her father’s signature grilled cheese recipe.

She's now taking home the contest’s $1 million grand prize.

'Seeing Lay's Bacon Grilled Cheese flavored potato chips brought to life was a dream come true, said George.

'Knowing that thousands of Lay's fans across the country tried and loved it, just as much as I did fills me with immense joy and gratitude for this opportunity.'

The runner-ups, Araceli Huerta and Neleia Lynn, will each receive $50,000, and their flavors will remain on shelves while supplies last.

Lay’s says the winning flavor will join past fan favorites like crispy taco, cheesy garlic bread, and southern biscuits & gravy in its official Flavor Vault.

'As a leader in flavor innovation, we're thrilled to bring this flavor to life and celebrate the inspiring ideas of our fans through this contest,' said Denise Truelove, senior vice president, marketing, PepsiCo Foods.

Several Instagram users celebrated the win this week after the company announced it on social media .

A couple of fans insisted Lay's fans 'bow to the baconator' because of the snack's 'fantastic' taste. However, commenters were also heartbroken, many of them believed the other two flavors should've won this year's bragging rights.

'Wow, im shook! Original unique flavors loose to basic cheese flavor. This will be lost in the sea of cheese flavors,' an Instagrammer wrote.

'Rip Korean Fried Chicken and Valentina & Lime, you were too good for this world.'

'They were the most lacking flavored ones of the 3,' an Instagram user claimed.

Although the runner-ups will not in stores for much longer, Lay's confirmed they've also earned spots in the flavor vault.

Because of this, the flavors could pop up in stores again at a later date.

The brand's Do Us a Flavor sweepstakes was on a seven-year hiatus before its triumphant return.

They celebrated by releasing five previous contest flavors out of the vault for a limited time: Chicken & Waffles, Fried Green Tomato, Cheesy Garlic Bread, Southern Biscuits & Gravy, and Crispy Taco.

Over 700,000 ideas came in before experts selected the top 3 finalists for this year's title.

While the return and new flavors hyped up fans, Lay's has not confirmed if the sweepstakes will return or go back on hiatus.
