The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed fines amounting to Rs445,000 during a special enforcement operation targeting breakfast outlets in various parts of the city. On the directions of Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, PFA teams inspected 29 breakfast points in Food Street, Samanabad, and Mozang areas, taking action against multiple outlets for violating hygiene and food safety regulations.
During the move, food safety teams discarded substandard oil, stale vegetables and other prohibited items found at various outlets. Strict action was taken against food business operators (FBOs) for poor hygienic conditions, dirty freezers, rusted utensils, improper storage practices and overall unsanitary environments.
PFA DG Muhammad Asim Javaid said that several breakfast points were also found operating near open drains, with foul-smelling surroundings and filthy washing areas. He added that essential documents including staff medical fitness certificates and mandatory operational records were also missing in many cases.
Improvement notices were issued to ensure future compliance. He further stated that food prepared with substandard and unhygienic ingredients poses serious health risks and will not be tolerated. The DG said that PFA is working tirelessly to align all stages of food handling from preparation to delivery with international food safety standards. He requested the public to play an active role by reporting any violations on PFA helpline 1223.
