Khartoum, June 24, 2026 (SUNA) - The Ombada Locality witnessed the launch of the major environmental sanitation and vector control campaign on Tuesday, under the supervision of the Khartoum State government and with the active participation of civil society organizations and citizens.
The campaign aims to enhance recovery efforts and restore basic services to the population.
The launch ceremony was attended by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the Wali (governor) of Khartoum State, Ahmed Osman Hamza and the Khartoum State's Acting Minister of Health, Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted the importance of collective and community action to ensure a healthy and safe environment.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health affirmed that the campaign represents a new phase toward returning life to its normal situation in Khartoum. He praised the resilience of medical personnel, announcing a financial support of 50 million Sudanese pounds to support the campaign, stressing the need to continue vector control and environmental services.
For his part, the Wali of Khartoum State underlined that cleanliness and environmental health are a collective responsibility. He explained that the war had affected routine work, but that thanks to the efforts of the federal and state ministries of health and partners, the spread of cholera had been curbed.
Hamza expressed his hope that this year would mark the end of citizens' suffering from the effects of autumn, praising all parties that contributed to the campaign.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, for his part, affirmed the importance of early preparation for the autumn season and improving water and food safety, noting a significant decrease in cholera cases thanks to collaborative efforts between the government, the community, and organizations.
The Executive Director of Ombada Locality stated that the challenges they face require concerted efforts, commending the sacrifices made by health workers under difficult circumstances.
